Sightseeing on the Asian Side of Istanbul: A Practical Guide from Kadıköy

Most visitors spend all their time on the European side and miss half the city. The Asian side is quieter, greener and full of neighbourhood life, and Kadıköy is the easiest place to start exploring it. These are the places our guests enjoy most, all reachable on foot, by tram or by a short ferry ride.

Kadıköy and Moda

Start at the market streets behind Kadıköy pier: fish stalls, delis, pickle shops and coffee roasters. Walk up Bahariye Street to see the Süreyya Opera House, then continue down to Moda for the seafront park and sunset views over the old city. The nostalgic tram runs a loop between Kadıköy and Moda if you want to rest your legs.

Fenerbahçe and the coast

Fenerbahçe Park sits on a small cape with sea views, shady paths and tea gardens, good for families. From there the seaside promenade continues towards Caddebostan, popular for walking and cycling. Bağdat Avenue, running parallel, is the Asian side’s main shopping street.

Üsküdar and the Maiden’s Tower

A short trip north takes you to Üsküdar, with its historic mosques and the waterfront facing the Maiden’s Tower. It is a lovely place for tea at sunset. From Üsküdar you can also take a ferry across to Beşiktaş or Eminönü.
